Special Guest Terrence Hawkins:
Terence Hawkins is the author of two novels and many short stories and essays. He founded the Yale Writers' Conference in 2011. He now runs the Company of Writers, offering workshops and manuscript services to writers at all levels of experience.
He grew up in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. A former coal town, it features in both Philipp Meyer's American Rust and the original "Night of the Living Dead."
He attended Yale University, where he majored in history and served as publisher of the Yale Daily News. Later Terence received a JD from the University of Wisconsin Law School.
His first story, "The Minnow Files," was published in Ape Culture in 2000. Others later appeared in Keyhole, Poor Mojo's Almanac(k), Eclectica, Megaera, and Pindeldyboz. His first novel, The Rage of Achilles, was published in 2009. A second, American Neolithic, was named a Best Book of 2014 by Kirkus Reviews, which called it "a towering work of speculative fiction." His writing is driven as much by idea as character and incorporates elements of history, philosophy, speculative fiction, and science. His work was recently recognized with an entry in the Encyclopedia of Science Fiction.
In 2018, Hawkins became a mentor in Visible Ink, a creative writing program for cancer survivors at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital.
TONYA HURLEY, author of the GHOSTGIRL series:
“Turing’s Graveyard is a collection of provocative and mesmerizing short stories that force the reader to confront the nature of life and death, intimacy and indifference and even the boundaries of reality itself. Hawkins writes with a passionate indifference about his characters and their experiences that perfectly encapsulates the isolation and disconnectedness of modern life. Brilliant.”
